Course Description:
This two-day event is PSIA-AASI's entry-level assessment for instructors who work with children. The CS1 Assessment includes an online E-Learning Course, an optional Study Guide, on-snow Teaching Scenarios, Video Movement/Technical Analysis, and technical discussions regarding how children and young students learn and progress from the Beginner/Novice Zone into the Intermediate Zone. Participants will need to use cross-country equipment for this assessment, either classic or skate.
CS1 candidates are evaluated on their knowledge of the developmental stages of children and age-appropriate application of CAP Model Concepts in a learning environment. Candidates earn the Children's Specialist 1 Certificate upon successful completion of the E-learning Course and the two-day assessment.
Please click here for directions on how to complete the Children's Specialist 1 E-Learning Course. The E-Learning course must be completed at least 1 week prior to the start of the on-snow event. We strongly encourage candidates to review ALL event materials, including the Study Guide, National Standards and the Children's Specialist Performance Guide. All event materials are listed through this link. Suggested educational materials, including the Teaching Children Snowsports Manual, Children's Instruction Manual, and the Teaching Snowsports Manual, are all available for purchase through the PSIA-AASI website.
