New Volunteer Recruitment for Ignite Adaptive Sports at Eldora Mountain Resort
Ignite Adaptive Sports will hold new volunteer recruitment sessions in October and November in the Community Room at REI in Boulder.
October 29, 2011 from 10 a.m. to Noon
November 3, 2001 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
November 12, 2011 from 10 a.m. to Noon
For 35 years, Ignite Adaptive Sports has offered outdoor recreational experiences to people with physical and cognitive disabilities. Additionally, we now operate a very successful program for disabled Veterans that is especially vital to the many Veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan returning with traumatic brain injuries, amputations and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Our lessons takes place at Eldora Mountain Resort near Nederland, CO, and includes alpine and Nordic skiing, snowboarding and snowshoeing. Ignite’s very existence is based upon our belief that everyone should be able to enjoy winter sports regardless of having a disability. Ignite students have special needs that cannot be met by traditional on-snow teaching methods, but that does not mean they should not participate. They enjoy the thrill of winter sports in a safe and supportive environment. Their lives are enhanced physically, emotionally and spiritually through their own accomplishments ultimately building self-esteem, learning self-reliance and garnering trust among peers.
Ignite students are youth and adults with a wide variety of disabilities such as traumatic brain injuries, visual impairment, spinal cord injuries, cerebral palsy, down syndrome, MS, and amputees.
Interested individuals will learn details about the program, benefits of being a volunteer and will be able to sign up for classroom and on-snow training. For more information, please visit www.igniteadaptivesports.org
