PSIA - ROCKY MOUNTAIN - AASI APPLICATION POLICIES
AND PROCEDURES
General Application Information
· Space is limited in all clinics
and exams! Enroll early.
· Forms MUST be complete:
• Name, address, phone number, other requested
info.
• Certification Level.
• Necessary signatures.
• Payment.
• Event for which you are applying to register.
• Location choice of event.
· Incomplete or invalid forms WILL BE RETURNED TO SENDER.
· All correspondence will be via U.S. Postal Service.
· Members of other divisions MUST submit a copy of their
current PSIA membership card with clinic application.
Exam applications require written permission from home division.
· No credit card transactions will be processed by telephone.
· Separate checks for making application, paying dues or
ordering manuals will speed processing procedures.
· The average size of groups in a specific clinic is 8-9
people. Groups of 6 or less will be cancelled. Please
register early. "Wait Lists" will be kept.
· Candidates planning to apply for more than one level
of certification this season must pass the first exam
before applying for the prerequisite clinic/s or written exam
for the next level.
Wait List Procedures
· If a clinic is filled to capacity at a specific location, a wait list will be started.
· Applications will be kept in order of receipt.
· If a registrant cancels, the first applicant on the wait list will be contacted and asked to respond to the office within 4 hours to fill the vacated spot.
· If the first applicant does not respond within 4 hours, the next applicant on the list will be contacted and given 4 hours to respond. And so on down the list.
· Applicants who do not respond within the specified time will be moved back one space in the wait list. Applicants who respond will fill the vacated spot.
Application Process
· Dues must be current to apply for
a clinic or exam.
· Fill out and mail or fax application form.
· Applications are processed on a first-arrival basis.
· NEW THIS YEAR! A receipt notification e-mail will be sent to all applicants supplying a valid e- mail address upon receipt of their application.
· Form is checked by RM office personnel for current dues,
enclosed payment, appropriate signatures,
clinic/exam choice, location choice, and availability.
· If everything on the form is in order and there is space
in the clinic/exam, the applicant is registered. · NEW THIS YEAR! A $20 processing fee will be assessed to all applications received after the deadline date.
· Confirmation letters are mailed two to three working
days after the published deadline date. This allows
time for all applications to be processed and ensures there are
enough applicants to hold the clinic/exam.
· If you have not received a confirmation letter one and
one-half weeks before the scheduled event, please
call the office to ensure your application was received and processed.
Application Deadlines
· Published deadline dates will be
adhered to.
· Published deadline dates allow office personnel adequate
time to make staffing and room arrangements for events
and also allow members to make their own arrangements.
· Applications must be received in the RM office by close
of business on published deadline date.
· Events can fill up before the published deadline date.
· If an event lacks registrations by the published deadline
date, RM reserves the right to cancel the event. All
fees will be returned.
· RM reserves the right to cancel an event at any time,
in which case all fees will be returned.
Payment Methods

* If paying by credit card, please be sure to
enter the complete credit card number, expiration
date and signature when mailing or faxing applications.
Cancellations and Switches
· No additional fee if registration
is cancelled or switched before the published deadline date.
· 50% cancellation or switch fee if the registration is
cancelled or switched after the published deadline
date but before the event.
· The 50% fee will be waived if you provide a person, at
least one week before the event, as your replacement
for a cancellation or switch.
· 100% cancellation fee if registrant cancels or is a "no-show"
on the day of the event.
· Medically verified cancellations will receive a 100%
refund IF a written doctor's verification and
request for refund is received in the RM office within 30 days
after the event.
· All Powder Experience clinics are NON-REFUNDABLE after
the deadline date. Medical refund does NOT apply to
these clinics.
Reciprocity
· PSIA is a National Organization.
· There are nine (9) separate Divisions.
· All PSIA and Divisional clinics and certifications are
recognized in each Division.
· Educational credits and certifications transfer from
one Division to another. Exams 'partial passes' do
not transfer from one division to another.
· Alpine Examiners from other Divisions transferring into
RM must apply for Apprentice Examiner. Upon passing
they will be in the Apprentice Examiner program. Otherwise, they
will be given Trainer's Accreditation status.
· All other Alpine Education Staff/Trainers transferring
into RM will be given Trainer's Accreditation status.
Foreign Certifications
· Foreign certified individuals join
RM as Registered Instructors.
· Submit written verification (in English) of Level 1;
instructor is then eligible to apply to take Level 2 prerequisites
and apply for Level 2 Certification.
· Submit written verification (in English) of Level 2;
instructor is then eligible to apply to take Level 3 prerequisites
and apply for Level 3 Certification.
· Submit written verification (in English) of Level 3;
instructor is then eligible to apply to take Level 3 prerequisites
and apply for Level 3 Certification.
· If unsuccessful, the instructor remains a Registered
Instructor and may retake the exam at the appropriate
level per submitted credentials.
· Foreign examiners wishing to join RM - please call the
office.
Crossover Between Disciplines
ALPINE:
· A level I or II member in
good standing in any other discipline may take TP II or equivalent,
and then apply for Certified II.
· A level III member in good standing in any other discipline
may take TP III or equivalent, and then apply for
Certified III.
NORDIC:
· Any PSIA or AASI member in good standing may attend a
Telemark or Cross-Country Level 1 Instructor Training course.
· PSIA Level II or III member in good standing in any other
discipline may take the Level 2/3 Instructor Training Course in
Telemark to go through the Cross-Country Level 2/3 process.
· Prerequisites for all levels of Backcountry Ski Instructor
are as stated in this Curriculum Guide.
AASI (Snowboard):
· PSIA Level II or III members in good standing in any
other discipline may take the Level II prerequisite
clinics and then apply for Certified II.
ADAPTIVE:
· A level I or above member in good standing in any other
discipline may take Adaptive TP II and then apply
for Certified II.
Membership Classes
AFFILIATE MEMBERSHIP
· Introductory level of division membership.
· May attend clinics that show "PSIA membership"
as the prerequisite. May also attend Level 1 certification
but may not become certified until employed by a member school
and having completed any requirements.
· Requires membership fee of $40.00.
REGISTERED INSTRUCTOR
· First level of membership.
· Requires membership application signed by authorized
member school personnel verifying employment.
· Requires membership fee of $80.00.
· Entitles member to attend Level I prerequisite clinics
and other clinics as noted in this Curriculum Guide.
CERTIFIED I
· First level of Certification.
· Requires Registered Instructor status.
· Requires successful completion of Certified I process.
· Maintain active status by paying annual dues and attaining
2 credits of update clinics every other year.
CERTIFIED II
· Highest level of Certification.
· Requires successful completion of all sections of the
Certified III exam. If unsuccessful at a section of the exam,
that section may be retaken until successfully completed.
· Maintain active status by paying annual dues and attaining
2 credits of update clinics every other year clinics every other
year.
· Only level of certification entitled to apply for ISIA
credentials.
CERTIFIED III
· Highest level of Certification.
· Required: Attend prerequisite clinics at least 30 days
prior, but not more than 2 seasons prior to the Certified
III exam.
· Requires successful completion of both days of the Certified
III exam. If unsuccessful at a section of the exam,
that section may be retaken until successfully completed.
· Maintain active status by paying annual dues and attaining
2 credits of update clinics every other year.
· Only level of certification entitled to apply for ISIA
credentials.
Membership Status
ACTIVE STATUS
· Instructor is teaching full or part-time
during a season.
· Annual dues payment required.
· 2 credits of update clinics every other year required.
(Each clinic day constitutes one clinic credit.)
INACTIVE STATUS
· Instructor not teaching for an entire
season, but plans to return within 4 years.
· Annual dues payment required. Dues to National are optional.

· Must submit written request for status change (update
clinics must be current at the time of request).
· 2 credits of update clinics every 4 years required. (Each
clinic day constitutes one clinic credit.)
EMERITUS STATUS
· Instructor is not teaching, does
not plan to return to teaching.
· Must submit written request for status change (update
clinics must be current at the time of request).
· Must have at least ten (10) years of membership in PSIA-RM.
· Must be at least forty (40) years of age.
· Annual dues payment required. Dues to National are optional.

· No clinic update requirement, but eligible to attend
clinics.
* Note: 25-year members and longer have
five years to accumulate their required clinic credits. 35-year
members and members 70 years of age or older are no longer required
to accumulate clinic credits in order to keep membership current.
