Program - Adaptive Snowboard Certification

ASSET PROGRAM

The Adaptive SnowSport Education Track (ASSET)
is an educational based program. ASSET will provide an ongoing
educational track for both on-snow and off-snow topics. The
ASSET program offers introductory courses as well as an avenue
for instructors and volunteers to get continuing education.
If an adaptive volunteer or instructor that does not want to
acquire certification they may participate in the ASSET course.
This course consists of a minimum of 12 predetermined educational
credits. These courses will be highlighted in six core subject
areas consisting of: teaching, sliding, medical/disability,
adaptive disciplines, biomechanics, and equipment assessments.
Upon completion of the required courses, the participant will
be awarded a PSIA-RM-AASI nameplate with the term Adaptive SnowSport
Specialist and their name. Each course is labeled as either introductory (101) or advanced (301).

This two-day clinic will focus on cognitive, visual impairments, slider, and the diagnoses of the people who use this equipment. Participants will review equipment set up, learn about associated diagnoses, and investigate assists, techniques and safety concerns the skier or instructor should know. Through interaction and discussion the group will develop a basic progression for the development of skills based on the ATS teaching model as related to cognitive and visual impairments and slider. Participants are asked to make arrangements with their ski schools to bring adaptive equipment to this clinic. ASSET: NORDIC COGNITIVE/VISUALLY IMPAIRED (a 101 course)

This two day introductory clinic will focus on adaptive methods for teaching Nordic skiing to people with cognitive and visual impairments. The focus will be on Adaptive techniques for Nordic Cross Country/Track, level one, skiing, the diagnoses most often associated with cognitive and visual impairments and the medical and safety concerns associated with these disabilities. Participants will learn the possible equipment that may be used and investigate assists and/or guiding techniques. There will be practice of games, drills and teaching methods that will make the lesson safe, fun and a learning partnership. Through interaction and discussion the group will develop a basic progression for skill development based on the ATS teaching and skiing models, as related to teaching people with these disabilities.

Participants will be introduced to the equipment set up, learn how to ski the equipment and investigate assists, techniques and safety concerns the skier or instructor should know. Through interaction and discussion the group will develop a basic progression 1-4 for the development of skills based on the ATS teaching model as related to the mono- and bi-ski. This one-day clinic will focus on the slider and the rider bar and the diagnoses most often associated with them. Participants will be introduced to the equipment and proper set up, learn about the diagnoses most often associated with skiing with the slider and rider bar, investigate assisting techniques and safety concerns that the skier or instructor should know .Through interaction and discussion the group will develop a basic progression for skill development based on the ATS teaching model as related to this equipment. The session will be broken into half days: slider in the morning and the rider bar in the afternoon. ASSET: ADVANCED SKIING FOR 3-TRACK & BLIND GUIDING (a 301 course)
Prerequisites: PSIA/AASI Membership
Credits: 1 per day
Fee: $55.00 per day
These one-day clinics will focus on advanced skiing for 3 trackers and blind skiers as well as guiding for blind skiers. The Day 1 participants will review diagnoses associated with blindness and low vision. Through interaction and discussion the group will create progression for skill development based on the ATS teaching model as related to upper level skiing. Day 2 participants will review diagnoses associated with 3 track skiers. Through interaction and discussion the group will create progression for skill development based on the ATS teaching model as related to upper level skiing. Participants are asked to make arrangements with their ski schools to bring outriggers, guide bibs (moved placement) for their own on-hill use and to this clinic.
